Ownership, "Trade Secrets," etc.
It seems in the world of cardistry, on several occasions, people claim that moves somebody else shows in their video has already been published or done/owned by some other person. This is fine and dandy, but the one important thing that seems to be missing is PROOF. For some reason, people seem to think that no proof is necessary to claim they did the move first. This is silly. Now on first...
Search The CardistRZ Blog
Thanks to Jacob DeHart, The Cardistrz Blog finally has some search so it’ll be easier to find posts around here. Now it means you have to know what to look for and you can’t really discover new content you didn’t know existed (like how would you know there was a video with ice skating on ramps). But this is a really neat start. More cardistry-related updates once Christmas/New...
Bicycle Halloween Cards Are Bad
How often do you expect to pick up a deck of opaque Bicycle cards, new out of the box, and have them clump on the first fan? These cards do. Stay clear. Still on vacation. Christmas shopping is finally done, now time for real vacation relaxing.
Back on first pack of Guardians
So I gave ‘em some time and it looks like the impact of the climate change has subsided, and they now fan perfectly again. Had me worried there for a bit, but all good.
Decknique "Show Your Stuff" Forum Update
I think this feature’s pretty neat and just so easy to work with. You’ll notice if you look at most threads in Show Your Stuff will now have an embedded video player and a “Rate This Video” option. It’s awesomely easy because it’s just automatic. Just put a link to the video somewhere in your new thread, and it’ll automatically put the video in for ya!...
Daniel Madison reacts to Cardistry FAQ +...
“Well said my man… you have the perfect outlook” Daniel Madison is currently working on at least three different projects at the moment including Breach, and maybe you’ve seen a hint of Dangerous… PS thanks again to DM for the link on his site.
Keep Passing On The FAQ
It’s nice to see some people are spreading the word on the Cardistry FAQ on other forums. I encourage any of you to link to the FAQ to anybody who asks that question about terminology, or even on your own blog/homepage that deals with this art. It’ll help anybody get a quick footing!
So many posts, so little organization
So I use Tumblr as the blog system here. They call these sorts of things tumblelogs. Now actually you could say I’m misusing tumblelogs because these are generally meant for really quick sharing and little thoughts but I tend to ramble on and on. But I do get the advantage of super-easy posting. Another problem is that look at this… 81 posts in a bit over 3 weeks. And the best shot you...
On my second pack of Guardians
So I’m glad to say I had a safe flight. From -5 celsius (23F) and dry to 26 celsius (79F) and humid, my open deck of Guardians was totally whacked out when I took it out once I arrived. I guess the change in climate really took a toll on it. I’ll leave it be overnight and if that doesn’t work I’ll try the ol’ freezer trick. In the meantime, glad I brought a backup!...
Still on first pack of Guardians
Mind you I’ve been really busy since I’ve got it, and the Cardistry FAQ’s been released, my blog’s been redesigned… But I have had the Guardians in my hands fairly often, they’ve met my floor… they’re not clumping yet… but I will definitely have more rigorous work going into them while I’m on vacation :)
Boxed Deck Submission: Ori Roth (Winner #2)
This submission was actually first submitted to me about TEN DAYS ago, so my apologies to Ori Roth for not having recognized it sooner. He’s also the second and last winner of the Boxed Deck Challenge. Congratulations, Ori! This video is very different from all the others because, as you see, Ori Roth is in fact a juggler! So there is no emphasis on twirls or close range movements, but they...

Ready-getting for Jet-setting
In about 12 hours I’m heading to finally start some vacation. I’ll still have Internet access (hell yeah wireless Internet + laptops) so I’ll still have chances to catch up and update the ‘ol blog. Looking forward to relaxing a bit… PS Thanks to Daniel Madison for the link on his page!
The Cardistry FAQ →
First release of The Cardistry FAQ is now available. I think this will help to solve a lot of the questions people keep coming up with and over and over again. There aren’t many good resources about this. I encourage you to pass it and link it around to other people you think would like to or need to read it too. Also post up comments if you got ‘em.

Boxed Deck Submission by UnknownEnemyZero
Yup, another entry to the boxed deck challenge. This one comes from UnknownEnemyZero, who I remember from years back. WHAT I LIKED: The song. I love the song. The first thing I did after watching this video was look for it on iTunes but it wasn’t there! Any tips? The twirls (and there were many of them) were smooth as SILK (not butter) and were a pleasure to watch. This is the kinda thing...

Recent Comments
It was a bit hard to see what the recent comments were, especially when the post you’re talking about is pages away. So if you look at the right hand side of each page, you’ll now see the most recent comments all over the blog. If you have a Disqus profile, you can also be notified when people reply to your comments.

I have more to post but patience! I want to spread them out a bit since they are quite a read. There’s also a potential winner coming up…

Boxed Deck Submission: "I Like Box" by...
Here’s another submission to the boxed deck challenge! This submission wins the best video title award. WHAT I LIKED: The video title got me in a good mood. He bothered to use a backdrop, get a nifty hat on, and some matching clothes. Look at those aerial moves with NO “safety hand!” The flip to the inside of his elbow, and the kick to flipback, were all very smooth. I’m...

Boxed Deck Submission: "Think Inside the Box?" by...
Okay, time to get rolling on these boxed deck submissions! Here’s an entry submitted by Gary D for the boxed deck challenge. WHAT I LIKED: Saying hi at the beginning. The first deck production (wasn’t quite on beat, but I can imagine if it was!) Going to catch it in your hat after tossing it up is a pretty cool move. Presenting the deck at the end. TO IMPROVE: I’ve seen this from...

Never say your submission is "no good"
“I know this video isn’t great, but I hope you like it anyways!” It’s funny. I saw this many times on Decknique, I’ve seen it on theory11, and I’ve even seen it in the boxed deck challenge. Why on earth would you expect us to accept a video if even you say “it sucks.” Decknique was and theory11 is selective in which videos they post. You should be...

New design is up!
I LOVE this design, more than any other I’ve made. And finally some colour. I hope you dig it. I only tested it in Firefox 2 and Safari 3, so let me know if you have any problems. Internet Explorer 6 doesn’t count :) EDIT: It should look fine in all browsers now. Let me know if you run into any problems.

New design almost done
Can’t wait for you guys to see this one. I should be done today. (If not in a couple hours!)

Simple proof
Had you heard of “cardistry” as a magical term before it was brought up in De’vo’s research? No? Okay.

Thoughts on De'vo's thoughts on cardistry
De’vo did some good research on this one. Obviously I can’t deny history. However, I don’t think his conclusions are really proven based on the research he’s put forward. I have admitted time and time again the word “cardistry” has been used a handful of times as a magical term. But the key thing is it has only been a handful of times, even going by the research...

New design in the works
Some people in MeBeam already saw the preview. It’s way above and beyond the current layout. The header is almost done, working on the rest… There will finally be some colour on this thing. Sadly, I think the big picture of myself staring at you no matter where you are on the page will be gone in the new version :) But part of me will still be there.

Paul Gordon and Cardistry
I saw a post somewhere saying that I had requested Paul Gordon stop printing and rename his book “Cardistry” which was published mid-2007, over a year after ”cardistry” was introduced as a non-magical term on Decknique. Whoever said that doesn’t know what the facts are. I did in fact send Paul Gordon an e-mail, but merely pointed out that “cardistry” was...

Cardistry & XCM: Misconceptions
This is so frustrating. People really have no flipping idea what cardistry, flourishing, or XCM really mean. You know why? Because nobody has really put out a TRUE resource about what this is all about. If you think you know of one, post a comment with a link. I’d be utterly surprised.

More boxed deck submissions
Some people have been sending me submissions 2 or 3 times now. Stay cool — I got the submission! These two weeks are very busy for me. I will update as I can, but when I review a video I don’t want to take shortcuts!

I have some university work to do and so I went to the “great hall” to do it, better than sticking around in a library or at home. What do you know it, jugglers come by and just get together and do their thing! Sweet.

I got some Guardians
Just got a brick of Bicycle Guardians in the mail today. My hands are pretty dry and cold right now so I haven’t had time to really jam with them yet, but I can comment on the aesthetics for now. They’re sexier in person. I saw the photos before and liked ‘em, but somehow seeing it person was much cooler. The box has a matte finish which I really like. A lot of the glossier boxes...

One way back design: WHO CARES
Now I imagine it’s more of a magic thing than a cardistry thing. But sometimes I’ve seen people make a big point about whether or not a playing card’s back design is one way or not. “Woah! ______ cards are actually one way!” Who gives a rat’s ass? Now I’m not talking about the explicit one way like Squeezers, but cards that have a subtle one way design...

MeBeam now.
Let’s try this. I’m on MeBeam right now. Come drop by and say hi.

It still gets me… popping into MeBeam randomly and seeing 8 people with cameras focused on their hands doing crazy cuts and twirls and stuff.

First boxed deck prize officially sent
So as a prize for participating in the boxed deck challenge, AXIS receives two free boxed decks! How fitting. There’s still one more prize left to be won. If you can impress me, it’s yours.
