Cardistry Evolving
Sometimes I take things for granted. I started cardistry (with charlier cuts, basic fans) in January 2003, which is really what I consider very near the beginning for a lot of people and the communities as we know it today. In this time, a Flipback was the s**t. What the Hell Happened To Sybil was a staple flourish and one of the most complicated. In 2003, Caps Casino came out with his crazy...
First FX render on my new workstation.
Let's get it started
So most of the first day spent with my workhorse was browsing websites, sending some e-mail, and downloading stuff. Great, eh? Finally I got my Adobe software going, and it’s pretty damn sweet so far. I spent 2 hours on a Technical Assistance phone line trying to get the font I use for the Decknique logo available in Photoshop and all that good stuff. Even though I was able to properly...
Forgot my cards
So I somehow forgot to bring my cards with me but had several requests for some tricks! (magic or cardistry) Finally, I thought I would give something a shot. So I asked them if they had a gift card and proceeded to show them a flipback which impressed the heck out of them (because if you do it right, it’s hard to see how it’s happening.) And then also showed the basic card twirl, part...
Stop coming back, Aviators!
So I’m unpacking and re-organizing all the stuff I’ve collected over the years and happened on a deck of “Caravans” again, so I opened up, and lo-n-behold — AVIATORS! No, I didn’t put a deck of Aviators in the wrong box. Caravans are actually just Aviators in a different box. There are also Planet cards or something that have Aviators inside as well. There are...
There’s finally been a step of progress in this idea I brought up a long time ago. Don’t ask, because I will not tell anybody who doesn’t already know (which is only a handful.) I don’t mean to make this post as a taunt, but again rather as a historical reference to be talked about later.
Well I got on the plane, and when I got off I was still at the same airport. Damn, if I took the bus I’d be home by now. EDIT: I managed to catch a flight 24 hours after I was originally supposed to leave, now back and safe!
Style/Ego Wars (...part 1?)
I thought this had died, but apparently it just went dormant. It is absolutely unfortunate. It negatively affects so many responses, interactions, and views in the community. What is the best way for it to be resolved? What is wrong? What is everybody doing? These things aren’t exclusive to the cardistry community, you see it many different places. But I still think if people recognize...
Well the fog didn’t let up so I’m not going home today. Ah well. I get to play more piano (learning What is Love? by Haddaway)
Chillin' at the airport
So my plane was supposed to leave an hour ago, but there are massive delays due to blanket fog. Looks like I’m stuck in the airport for a while, flight will probably be cancelled too. Maybe I can work on some new features heh.
I just finished moving all the original Member Videos and Tutorials to the appropriate Show Your Stuff forums, including all comments and ratings, and I gotta say I got a damn nice feeling of accomplishment from that one. It worked perfectly.
Days after vacation are productive
Starting even while I was in the airport waiting for my flight back to Canada, a bunch of new stuff has been done on Decknique. Thumbnails are visible in Show Your Stuff. The forums were upgraded twice over, and now include feature-packed profile pages, and a lot of other neat features as well. I also feel so much more inclined to get stuff done. Of course still being on break might have something...
Show Your Stuff... 2.1?
I made another update to Decknique’s Show Your Stuff forum. Remember how videos are automatically embedded when you post your video link there? Well I was thinking about how to take it another step, and figured out a way to show the thumbnail in the actual thread listing! Currently it only works for YouTube and Metacafe videos, I’ll only pick out popular media sites. I can’t show...
