Turns out that gibberish is actually a ZIP file. The contents appear to be pretty much useless, and just their basic code to do domain parking. So no real hints there, it seems.

For the first time, I can see something on that 173la.cn page now. I have no idea what it means though… it’s all gibberish, and it’s not gibberish I recognize. That’s apparently a 404 (Not Found) error message too, oddly enough. Any ideas?

Spam bots(?) put down even more but still crawling

So these spam bots have continued to harass the Decknique server with no negative effect on the performance for users, or even on my wallet (if I let all the requests in, I would have to pay extra bandwidth charges).

I’m resetting my spam bot counter now. Within a bit under a month, the stats are:

Direct requests for videos: 1,886,989
IP addresses making these requests: 11,350
Number of distinct videos being requested: 87

I would’ve let it keep going but I was surprised there seemed to be no end in sight. I was trying to see if I could get more information about how this was happening.

But anyways, I figured out how to stop the bots from making repeated requests. So I’m resetting these counters and it should only increase very slowly from now on.

PS Can anybody in China (or otherwise) access the website http://173la.cn/u/egao/ and see anything meaningful? Like links to Decknique videos or something?

To be fair, I’m not 100% they’re bots, only 99% sure.

While writing this, I checked and indeed DN’s still getting these requests… but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a lot less than before. It will still have no effect on Decknique’s performance.

Brief update

Been quiet, eh? I’ve been travelling about Japan for over a week now. Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, etc… In an internet cafe, so not much I can do.

Meantime, decknique has been hammered with 708,000 requests from spam bots and not even breaking a sweat. It surprises me they’re still going even though it’s having no effect whatsoever.

And first teaser of Dangerous is up on theory11….

さよなら

The Cardistry Collaboration Contest 2008 plaques have started arriving for the winners (at least in the USA where it’s very close). Congrats again, all!

Samoan Chief Performer

Caught a great free show at the resort I’m staying at. Unfortunately I don’t remember his name except he also performs at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, HI. Before this video, he created the fire by rubbing two stick together. After this vid, he and the other guy with red shorts were jump-climbing the tall coconut trees.

Very funny guy, and a great show.
