Filming locations - get 20m away from your house!
Just came across another media submission of somebody in his backyard.
*Sigh*
Now I have said and I still firmly believe people should get OUT OF THEIR HOUSE when filming. What I mean by that is that I don’t want to hear your family, see your dog, or your family portraits, or see your messy room.
But the point I’m getting at is that your environment should be interesting and should suit your video.
GET OUT OF YOUR BACKYARD!
Does it make any sense to be in your backyard? Maybe if you got a cool backyard, but chances are it’s just grass and a fence. Why does it make sense for you to be doing cardistry back there?
Mind you, my most recent videos have been in and around my house. But damned if I don’t make it interesting. VorteX Sequence is actually filmed in my bedroom, but against a clear green backdrop. Pivotal Cut tutorial was filmed in front of a closet, which I thought looked pretty cool.
Now I appreciate the effort of having even gone somewhere. And he had a cool transition going from inside to outside. But still… you have to think about whether or not the change of environment is actually worth it!
If you’re going to put effort into it, THINK about what difference it’ll make! Maybe you can find a more interesting location! For instance, one easy thing that would’ve made the video loads better was to try and cut out the grass and just have fence as the backdrop.
Anyways, enough for now… I’ll ramble more as I see more people submit this kind of stuff.
It’s nice to let it out :)
So to recap… STAY 20M AWAY FROM YOUR HOUSE UNLESS YOU CAN MAKE IT LOOK COOL.
