Paul Gordon and Cardistry
I saw a post somewhere saying that I had requested Paul Gordon stop printing and rename his book “Cardistry” which was published mid-2007, over a year after ”cardistry” was introduced as a non-magical term on Decknique.
Whoever said that doesn’t know what the facts are.
I did in fact send Paul Gordon an e-mail, but merely pointed out that “cardistry” was also in use on Decknique for over a year with a different meaning, had caught on on YouTube, was visible in a Google search, and was now also in use on theory11. I thought he would like to know this since he is obviously interested in the word as well.
I congratulated him on publishing his book, and never did I ever suggest that that he modify his book let alone stop printing it.

Dear Mr. Gordon,…
I noticed you had a book called “Cardistry.” Congratulations on
getting it published.
I thought you might be interested in knowing that “cardistry” has
started to pick up a totally new definition in the magic community (as
can be seen on decknique [all over] and theory11 [check the media and
forums sections]). I’m not sure if you are into the flourishing craze
that’s been rising and rising over the past few years, but the word
“cardistry” is now being used as the name for this art and to signify
the art’s growth beyond of the category of magic.
A quick Google search of the word “cardistry” will show this too…
(and your book :) )
Anyways, I just thought it’d be something you’d interested in knowing.
Regards,
- Richard
