Boxed Deck Submission: “Think Inside the Box?” by Gary D
Okay, time to get rolling on these boxed deck submissions!
Here’s an entry submitted by Gary D for the boxed deck challenge.
WHAT I LIKED:
Saying hi at the beginning.
The first deck production (wasn’t quite on beat, but I can imagine if it was!)
Going to catch it in your hat after tossing it up is a pretty cool move.
Presenting the deck at the end.
TO IMPROVE:
I’ve seen this from may people… Beware of “half arm syndrome!” This is when you put your arm behind your back and bend it at the elbow such that it almost looks like you only have half an arm. In this video, you’ll see the first time he puts his right arm (our left) behind his back it’s fine… but then when he puts his other arm behind his back it’s nearly half arm.
Work on the fumbling. With practice you should be able to get more consistent with rotations and at which rotation point you actually catch the deck. Also, sometimes it seems the right grip was there but there was some fumbling anyways. Confidence!
Along with confidence, there was a lot of “safety hand” in this video too, where the other hand comes up as a safety net.” This must be cut at all costs!
I like doing that shirt thing too with a hacky sack, but I think as it is it’s more of a comedic, or “happy” move rather than a really serious, rap move. So while I think it has its place it didn’t really fit in this video for me.
In the second production, it was QUITE clear where the box went, it didn’t seem to vanish, it literally looked like you just pushed and rotated it towards your body. While the move has its place, make sure the vanish is correct! Also, maybe you’d want to use a different vanish/production since you already did this one at the beginning of your video.
